Denver is known as the Mile High City because it sits exactly one mile (5,280 feet) above sea level.
Besides the altitude, it’s also famous for its food, beer, outdoor culture, and music scene.
There are endless options for fine dining, unique restaurants, and craft breweries all around the city.
Denver sits at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, so world-class skiing, hiking, and biking are all within a day’s drive of the city.
Red Rocks Amphitheater is also one of the most well-known Denver attractions, bringing huge artists from all over the world and delivering and outdoor concert experience unlike any other
Of course, Denver (and Colorado as a whole) is also famous for being a pioneer in legalizing recreational marijuana.
Is Denver expensive to visit?
As with most vacation spots, you can build a Denver trip to fit almost any budget.
If you’re looking to spend less money, you can rent a campervan to visit free attractions and explore the outdoors, stay cheap in the van and cook your own meals

Art enthusiasts will enjoy the art districts around Denver, offering many opportunities for art, good food, and local music.
Denver also has several major sports teams so depending on what time of year you visit, you can catch a game downtown.
If you’ve planned ahead, seeing a concert at Red Rocks is a bucket list item for most people, but tickets often sell out early.
A visit to Denver isn’t complete without experiencing some of its outdoor opportunities. There are plenty of hiking and mountain biking trails near Denver.
If you’re looking for a bigger adventure, you can attempt to hike one of Colorado’s 58 “fourteeners,” which is a mountain peak over 14,000 feet.
These aren’t for beginner hikers though and altitude sickness is a very real risk for anyone visiting from sea-level.
What’s the best time of year to visit Denver?
The “shoulder season,” is the best time of year to visit Denver. This is in the spring or fall when city temperatures are the most pleasant.
There are also fewer tourists during these months, which means camping and lodging is not only cheaper but also easier to acquire.
If you’re coming to Denver for outdoor opportunities though, you may want to plan your trip in the summer or the winter, as the “shoulder season” can also be known as the “mud season.”
But when traveling by campervan rental, Denver is great all year ’round because of all the advantages that vans offer.

Colorado is home to endless camping locations across the state, but there are several easy options not too far from Denver.
Whether you’re looking for a nearby state park, National Forest, or backpacking trail, they can all be found within a few hours of the city.
