Coach-built camper vans tend to look a bit, well, same-y. Generally, if you want a homely, rustic van interior with a custom twist you’ll have to master the art of DIY and build it yourself. However Arizona-based conversion company Boho Camper Vans are offering van fit-outs with a difference, offering super unique finishing touches to beautiful van interiors.
It all started with a custom request from a client, in the form of a bunch of hand-sketched drawings over coffee. Jerome had a vision, and he wanted Boho Camper Vans to bring that vision to life. The project was nicknamed Golden Egg, and the idea was to create a full-time home on wheels that could be used for warm weather chasing in the U.S., as well as regular foosball tournaments. The project took 6 months of prior planning, but it was a chance for Boho, who is synonymous with affordable Ford Econoline conversions, to showcase what they could do on a big budget.
The base van is a 2019 Ford Transit cargo high roof, the newest, tallest and biggest Class B van available on the US market, painted a luxurious white-gold color, hence the name Golden Egg.
Inside, Boho Camper Vans went to town with bamboo flooring, wonderfully retro brown/gold tiles and red cedar cladding, creating a warm and homely first impression.
As you step in, a comfy sofa takes up one side of the van, equipped with a swivel table and flip-top extension for added workspace. The other side is occupied by a cute little galley kitchen, complete with a Ruvati stainless steel sink, a butcher block countertop and a slide-out pantry. The Dometic range/oven somehow fits perfectly with the van’s decor, reflecting the warm tones of the walls, and a slide-out Dometic CFX-95 dual fridge lives underneath the bed on pull-out sliders.
The double bed sits at the rear of the van, and underneath it is stored all of the camper’s services: a 315Ah solar-powered battery system, a 3000W inverter and a 12.2 gallon propane system. An intake-outtake roof vent fan keeps things cool in the bed area, while dimmable LED lighting sets the mood, and a JL Audio stereo system and cable TV with a digital TV antenna provide entertainment.
If you think a Ford Transit is too small to fit a shower in then wait until you see this; the Golden Egg has a hidden surprise as the indoor shower is in fact stowed away underneath the steps, and it’s fed by a 25 gallon fresh water tank via a 2.5 gallon hot water heater which we can see mounted on the kitchen wall. A 15 gallon underslung grey water tank collects all of the waste water too, and a Dickinson propane fireplace keeps things toasty in the evening. There’s even a small portable toilet hidden under a part of the sofa which flips up.
All of these features would be epic enough in such a well-designed van conversion, but there’s one more surprise: a full-size slide-out foosball table hidden beneath the bed. This would be a cool addition to any van, for sinking beers whilst playing a few games under the shade of this van’s rear-mounted umbrella, but Jerome takes his foosball seriously, and the table is actually for practicing for tournaments, and is also perfectly leveled.
As this is a custom build we don’t have an idea on price, however starting prices for Boho Camper Vans’ conversions are around $25,000, plus the cost of a used Ford E350 estimated at around $10,000 – $15,000. They even do rentals from their Arizona workshop, so you can get a little taste of bohemian-style vanlife before you decide to buy.
