Yesterday the Victorian government announced that the half-price camping fees that were introduced back on the 1st July (who knew, seriously?) have already produced a 63% increase in bookings, compared to this time last year.
Great news for those of us who camp in Victoria, the reduction already appears to be showing dividends for regional Victoria, encouraging families and other campers to get out there and explore the beauty of regional Victoria.
Expanding on the abolition of camping fees at 500 basic sites over 70 campgrounds in 19 parks in 2015, the latest announcement went further, halving all remaining fees in State and National Parks.
In addition to these price reductions, there are also plans to build more than 30 new campgrounds and upgrade 30 more across the state. Sites in line for an upgrade include the Greater Bendigo National Park, the Fraser campground at Lake Eildon, Glenelg River and the nearby Princess Margaret Rose Cave.
For those of us who’ve already booked holidays before the 1st July, don’t worry, eligible bookings will automatically be refunded the difference. New prices have already been factored in and automatically applied to bookings at parks.vic.gov.au, so there’s no excuse to put off that trip you were thinking of.
